MoD Abbeywood is a purpose-built site in Filton, Bristol that houses the Defence Equipment and Support procurement organisation with over 9000 staff. The building project involved over 130,000m² of buildings including offices and together with landscaping and external works on a 98 acre (400,000m²) site.

Since the site’s construction completion in 1996, there has never been any form of building skin investigations or planned maintenance. Surrounded by lakes and amongst trees, the buildings were suffering from significant volumes of organic growth, leaching of corroded metals and oxidation of the powder coated cladding areas.

Our initial role focused on testing, analysis and condition surveys to identify the condition and solutions required to help restore and protect the building skin. A strategy was then agreed to undertake the fully restoration of the building envelope throughout the site as well as a unique building skin protection programme Strategic Façade Management™. This guarantees the client has longevity, ongoing inspections, documented changes and performance from their initial invest.
