Located close to a busy town centre road the façade was heavily soiled with years of carbon built up from traffic along with more historic deposits, which had built up from the use of coal fires. Weathering patterns were particularly heavy on the South elevation sections of the façade.
To help loosen and break down the carbon we used a 3 phased light steam cleaning process, before implementing each phase the façade was allowed to dry and then inspected with key areas being identified for specialist cleaning with the use of poultice applications. The use of the poultice enables us to sensitively extracting the deeper carbon staining from the faced with-out causing damage.
On completion the facade restoration project the building was returned back to its former lustre, whilst still retaining some of its historical weathering elements of the past.
