MoD Abbeywood is a purpose-built site in Filton, Bristol that houses the Defence Equipment and Support procurement organisation with over 9000 staff.
The building project involved over 130,000 m² of buildings including offices and together with landscaping and external works on a 98 acre (400,000 m2) site.
Since the site’s construction completion in 1996, there never been any form of external façade cleaning or maintenance. Surrounded by lakes and building situated amongst trees the buildings were suffering from significant volumes of organic growth, leeching of corroded metals and oxidation of the powder coated cladding areas.
Our role has been to create an initial façade cleaning strategy that could be programmed and delivered with a tight frame work. Budgets limitations have ensured we initially focus on key areas of the site, but guaranteeing results are delivered to the client’s requirements.
On completion of the project, we will be working with the client, providing a façade management programme which monitors and measures soiling patterns as well as pro-actively treating and removing issues such as organic growth. Under our programme we guarantee the quality and condition of the buildings as well as documenting weathering patterns and creating façade maintenance budgets created from real data.
