Recognising the local requirements
This is the first in a series of posts based on our knowledge of façade systems and future technologies. This post focuses on passive solar façade design, utilitarian, flamboyant, low-cost and high investment designs, as well as applicable and heavily involved designs
As transmission of electromagnetic radiation is often at the root of the challenge in highly glazed buildings, the difficulties and solutions can be largely determined by one factor – latitude. The latitude determines the sun path, which in turn determines the solar irradiation received by the façade, and, depending on the local environment, when and where glare will be experienced in the building.
